Chalicotherium is a genus of extinct perissodactyls in the family Chalicotheriidae, known from Europe and Asia during the Early Miocene to Late Miocene (23.0–5.3 million years ago). The name derives from Ancient Greek χάλιξ (khálix), meaning 'gravel', and θηρίον (theríon), meaning 'beast', referencing the pebble-like teeth of the type species. This odd-looking herbivore had long clawed forelimbs and stouter weight-bearing hindlimbs, and was adapted for browsing in a manner unique among ungulates.
